Are You Trying To Get Him Back ? The Best Break Up Advice

Are You Trying to Get Him Back ? the Best Break Up Advice

Getting back together with your ex-boyfriend can be easier than you are thinking, but whether he will be interested may depend on how you go about getting him back. Whether you chose to end the relationship or he did, you can still get him back.

However, if you are serious about getting back together, you will avoid contacting him for several weeks after the break up. This may not sound like the right thing to do, but you must allow him time to start missing you, and he will not do this if you are phoning him regularly.

If several weeks have gone by and he hasn't yet got in touch with you, then you may want to think about arranging an "accidental" meeting. You will know some of the places he likes to visit, so perhaps you and a friend could go to one of these venues. Make sure that you look good, so you can show him exactly what he is missing. Don't worry about starting up a conversation at this stage, just make sure he notices you.

Don't stay at home all of the time. Make sure you go out, and let him now that you are getting on with your life. If he thinks you are moving on, then he is more likely to decide he wants you back in his life, and you may find that he contacts you to see what you think of the possibility. If he sees that you are attracting attention from other men, even if you are not remotely interested in anybody else, then this is likely to make him feel jealous, and want to try again at making a relationship with you work.

Make sure you spend time looking after yourself as well. Treat yourself to a new haircut, some new clothes, or do whatever else you want to make you look and feel great. If you really want to get him back, then you will need to show him what he is missing, and looking fantastic is an important part of this, despite it sounding extremely shallow.

Most importantly of all, if he is really the man for you, don't give up. You can get him back if you work at it and you really want it to happen, so keep trying. A break up does not have to mean that you will not be able to make it work in the future, so if you want this, go for it.

Nobel laureates call for end to TV's "Stars Earn Stripes"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Nine Nobel Peace laureates, including retired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, on Monday called on television network NBC to cancel its "Stars Earn Stripes" reality show, calling it a bid to "sanitize war by likening it to an athletic competition."

The competition show, due to air for the first time on Monday evening, puts eight celebrities such as singer Nick Lachey and politician Sarah Palin's husband Todd, through military-style training, including helicopter drops and long-range weapons firing.

The celebrities are paired with former members of the U.S. Marines, Green Berets and other forces to compete for a cash prize that would go to a charity of their choice. Producers say the show, hosted by retired U.S. General Wesley Clark, will "pay homage to the men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces."

In an open letter to NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt, the Nobel Prize winners said that "preparing for war is neither amusing nor entertaining."

"It is our belief that this program pays homage to no one anywhere and continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence.

"Real war is down in the dirt deadly. People ? military and civilians ? die in ways that are anything but entertaining," the letter said.

The Nobel-winning signatories called on NBC to "stop airing this program."

NBC rejected the assertion that "Stars Earn Stripes" glorifies war. "'Stars Earn Stripes' is about thanking the young Americans who are in harm's way every day. This show is not a glorification of war but a glorification of service," the network said in a statement.

Tutu, 80, won his Nobel in 1984 for efforts to end apartheid in South Africa. He was joined in the letter by American anti-landmines campaigner Jody Williams, Mairead Maguire and Betty Williams of Northern Ireland, former East Timor President Jose Manuel Ramos-Horta, Argentine artist Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Rigoberta Menchu Tum of Guatemala and Iranian lawyer Dr. Shirin Ebadi.

In addition to Palin and Lachey, the show's contestants include actors Dean Cain and Terry Crews, wrestler Eve Torres, television fitness trainer Dolvett Quince, former Olympic skier Picabo Street and boxer Laila Ali, daughter of former champion Muhammad Ali.

Paul Ryan Chokes Up at Wisconsin Homecoming Rally

WAUKESHA, Wis. - For Paul Ryan, it was an emotional homecoming.

With thousands cheering him during his first stop in his native Wisconsin as a vice presidential candidate, Ryan seemed to be choking back tears as he relayed his affection for his home state.

"I'm fifth generation from this state. My families came here back in the 1800s, made a go of it. It's where we've all raised our families ever since. This is such a phenomenal place to live, to work, to raise your family," Ryan said, choking up as he spoke to the crowd of approximately 10,000.

Just two days after Ryan set off on that clandestine trip from his home in Janesville, Wis., to Norfolk, Va., to join the Republican ticket, Mitt Romney shared the emotion he and his wife, Ann, felt as they were welcomed by the crowd in Ryan's home state.

"Ann leaned over to me as Paul was speaking, we were all moved by the way at the welcome you gave him. We were touched and tears filled my eyes, I looked at Ann, tears were in her eyes, and I know Paul, Janna [Ryan's wife] felt the same way. You guys are just amazing. I'm not sure about the kids but the rest of us felt pretty emotional," Romney said.

"I guess you think I made the right decision, the right choice," Romney said. "I know I did. People ask me why I chose Paul Ryan. The answer is I wanted someone who was a leader. Leadership comes from character. This is a man who has real character, who loves America, who has passion for America. Who understands what it takes to get America on the right track and this leader is going to help get America strong."

Joined by his wife, daughter and two sons, Ryan, a fifth generation Wisconsinite who grew up and lives in Janesville, some 50 miles south of Waukesha, spoke in almost a Wisconsin code as he shared his affinity for the signature items of the Badger State - from their sports teams to their beer.

"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, and a little Spotted Cow and some Miller," Ryan said to cheers from the crowd. "I was raised on the Packers, Badgers, Bucks and Brewers. I like to hunt here, I like to fish here, to snowmobile here. I even think ice fishing is interesting. I'm a Wisconsinite through and through and I've just got to tell you how this means to be home."

With Ryan at his side, Romney relayed a forceful message to President Obama about the state of his campaign, telling the president to "take your campaign out of the gutter."

"There's no question but if you follow the campaign of Barack Obama, he's going to do everything in his power to make this the lowest, meanest negative campaign in history. We're not going to let that happen. This is going to be a campaign about ideas about the future of America. This is a campaign about greatness, about America's future for your children, for the world. Mr. President take your campaign out of the gutter, let's talk about the real issues that America faces," Romney said.

Since Ryan joined the ticket Saturday, Romney's events have burst with crowds numbering into the thousands, and the campaign shot a television ad at Sunday night's Waukesha event, which the staff estimated near 10,000 people. A few protesters were escorted out of the event by security after interrupting Romney as he spoke.

The Wisconsin event marked the end of Romney and Ryan's two-day post-announcement tour. Romney will head on to Florida Monday and Ohio Tuesday to round out his four-day bus tour. Ryan flies to Iowa for an event Monday at the same time that President Obama will be on a bus tour of his own in the Hawkeye State.

Iran steps up nuclear warhead work, Israel media report

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Iran has stepped up work to develop a nuclear warhead, Israeli newspapers said on Sunday, citing officials in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government and leaked U.S. intelligence.

The front-page reports in the liberal Haaretz, a frequent Netanyahu critic, and in the conservative, pro-government Israel Hayom could intensify Israeli debate about whether to go to war against Iran - and soon - over its disputed atomic projects.

Doing so would defy appeals by U.S. President Barack Obama, seeking re-election in November, to allow more time for international diplomacy. Tehran says its nuclear ambitions are peaceful and has threatened wide-ranging reprisals if attacked.

Citing an unnamed senior Israeli official, Haaretz said a new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) compiled by the Obama administration included a "last-minute update" about significant Iranian progress in the development of a nuclear warhead "far beyond the scope known" to U.N. inspectors.

Israel Hayom reported NIE findings that Iran had "boosted efforts" to advance its nuclear program, including work to develop ballistic missile warheads, and said U.S. and Israeli assessments largely tallied on this intelligence.

Neither daily newspaper provided direct quotes or detailed evidence. For Haaretz, it was the second report since Thursday purporting to draw on a new NIE.

Israeli government spokesmen had no immediate comment. Asked about the reports in an Israel Radio interview, Cabinet Secretary Zvi Hauser suggested they be taken at face value.

"There is too much attribution of manipulation, which does not exist, to this or that official," Hauser said. "There are a great many things that are just as they are, for better or worse."

Washington has not commented on whether such an NIE exists. But its officials say the U.S. intelligence assessment remains that the Islamic republic is undecided on whether to build a bomb and is years away from any such nuclear capability.

DOMESTIC DIVIDE

Israel, widely reputed to have the region's sole atomic arsenal, sees a nuclear-armed Iran as a mortal menace and has long threatened to attack its arch-foe preemptively.

The war talk is meant, in part, to stiffen sanctions on Tehran by conflict-wary world powers. Israel and the United States have publicly sought to play down their differences.

Much of the media scrutiny has been on opposition to the war option within the Israeli cabinet, military and public, given the tactical and strategic risks involved. But opinion polls suggest support for an attack is growing.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper suggested on Friday that a destabilizing Israeli attack on Iran before November could undermine Obama, a Democrat whose ties with Netanyahu have been testy, and help Republican rival Mitt Romney, who casts himself as a better friend of the Jewish state.

But a senior Israeli official quoted in a separate Haaretz story spoke of the question of who would head the next U.S. administration as largely irrelevant regarding Iran given Israel's belief that "we cannot place our fate in the hands of others" and "in statesmanship there are no future contracts".

That official was described by Haaretz as a "decision-maker" and veteran security figure who owns a grand piano - strong signals it was Ehud Barak, Israel's longtime, centrist defense minister. Ex-general Barak is also an accomplished pianist who has recently briefed media in his Tel Aviv penthouse.

Though the Obama administration has refused to rule out a U.S. war of last resort to deny Iran the means to make a bomb, the Israeli official quoted by Haaretz said "expectation of such a binding American assurance now is not serious".

"And if Mitt Romney is elected, history shows that presidents do not undertake dramatic operations in their first year in office unless forced to," the Israeli official said.

New bacteria-resistant materials discovered

Monday, August 13, 2012

Using state-of-the-art technology scientists at The University of Nottingham have discovered a new class of polymers that are resistant to bacterial attachment. These new materials could lead to a significant reduction in hospital infections and medical device failures.

Medical device associated infections can lead to systemic infections or device failure, costing the NHS ?1bn a year. Affecting many commonly used devices including urinary and venous catheters ? bacteria form communities known as biofilms. This 'strength in numbers approach' protects them against the bodies' natural defences and antibiotics.

Experts in the Schools of Pharmacy and Molecular Medical Sciences, have shown that when the new materials are applied to the surface of medical devices they repel bacteria and prevent them forming biofilms.

The research was led by Professor Morgan Alexander, and Professor Martyn Davies in the School of Pharmacy and Professor Paul Williams in the School of Molecular Medical Sciences. The results of the ?1.3m four year research project supported by a Translation Award from the Wellcome Trust, have been published today, Sunday 12 August 2012, in the prestigious academic journal Nature Biotechnology.

The novel materials had to be found using a new technique

Researchers believed there were new materials that could resist bacteria better but they had to find them. This meant screening thousands of different chemistries and testing their reaction to bacteria ? a challenge which was beyond conventional materials development or any of our current understanding of the interaction of micro-organisms with surfaces.

The discovery has been made with the help of experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ? who initially developed the process by which thousands of unique polymers can now be screened simultaneously.

Professor Alexander said: "This is a major scientific breakthrough ? we have discovered a new group of structurally related materials that dramatically reduce the attachment of pathogenic bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli). We could not have found these materials using the current understanding of bacteria-surface interactions. The technology developed with the help of MIT means that hundreds of materials could be screened simultaneously to reveal new structure-property relationships. In total thousands of materials were investigated using this high throughput materials discovery approach leading to the identification of novel materials resisting bacterial attachment. This could not have been achieved using conventional techniques."

These new materials prevent infection by stopping biofilm formation at the earliest possible stage ? when the bacteria first attempt to attach themselves to the device. In the laboratory experts were able to reduce the numbers of bacteria by up to 96.7per cent ? compared with a commercially available silver containing catheter ? and were effective at resisting bacterial attachment in a mouse implant infection model. By preventing bacterial attachment the body's own immune system can kill the bacteria before they have time to generate biofilms.

Ted Bianco, Director of Technology Transfer at the Wellcome Trust, said: "Infections caused by microbial biofilms binding to the surface of implants often cannot be treated with conventional antibiotics. This makes them a significant challenge in patient care, particularly for those with inserted medical devices like catheters, heart valves and prosthetic joints. The discovery of these new polymers is a great example of how advances in materials science are being exploited in our efforts to improve the performance of critical medical components. Just as materials science gave us the non-stick saucepan, so we look forward to the day of the 'non-stick' medical device."

Bacterial attachment and subsequent biofilm formation are key challenges to the performance of medical devices. This is early stage research but the initial results are very promising. The next stage of this research will be to develop the manufacture of these coatings to enable the performance of these materials to be assessed clinically and the inventors are in early stage discussions with a number of medical device companies.

Romney signals support for more Medicare choices

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Mitt Romney says that he and running mate Paul Ryan have talked about providing people more Medicare choices and making sure the program doesn't change for current seniors or those nearing retirement.

Ryan says to preserve benefits for younger people, Medicare must be reformed. He says proposed reforms have bipartisan origins.

The candidates made the comments to Bob Schieffer of "60 Minutes" on CBS.

Ryan's Medicare blueprint hinges on steering future retirees into private insurance plans, with a fixed payment from the government that may or may not cover as much of a retiree's costs as does the current program.

Romney has singled out Ryan's work "to make sure we can save Medicare." But Romney has never said whether he embraced that plan himself.

Affiliate Revenue-How to Create an Affiliate Marketing Business ...

Cashing in on affiliate revenue opportunities is simply a matter, in essence, of being a sales agent for someone else. Here?s a simple example of how the whole process works. Let?s say, for example, that you?re a craft person and you have a web site where you sell quilts. Your web site is essentially an online catalog containing page after page for various quilts that you and your friends create. In addition to selling quilts you have an opportunity to cash in on affiliate revenue.

The first thing you do is to identify other possible products that the people that visit your site might be interested in. Let?s say that you decide that people interested in quilts might also be interested in quilt making and collectibles. Great!

Now you do a little research. You start by going to somewhere like http://www.associateprograms.com to research that has an affiliate revenue program for collectibles. There you discover that the Franklin Mint, a well-known supplier of collectibles has an affiliate program. You browse their terms and decide you want to enroll in their affiliate revenue program. One of your friends tells you about Amazon.com?s affiliate program too so you quickly research that and decide that cross-selling books (about quilt making and collecting) might make good sense.

Following up with Franklin Mint?s and Amazon?s affiliate programs will then result in your adding specialized links to your website so that when various products of yours are displayed, cross-sell items are displayed or pitched from the Franklin Mint or Amazon. If one of your visitors purchases something through the Amazon.com or Franklin Mint links ? you earn a commission!

That?s all there is to it. Study your market, identify the appropriate affiliates, link up and reap the affiliate revenue benefits.

Rights groups hail Mexican court decision

MEXICO CITY (AP) ? Human rights groups were jubilant Friday after Mexico's Supreme Court moved to turn military human rights violations over to civilian courts, a blow to a military justice system accused of covering up cases of soldiers abusing, torturing and executing citizens during a six-year government offensive against drug cartels.

The ruling goes against President Felipe Calderon, who has staunchly defended the military and whose government proposed moving some military cases to civilian courts ? but not homicides.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday to send the case of Jethro Ramses Sanchez, a 27-year-old auto mechanic who authorities say was tortured and killed by soldiers at a military base last year, to civilian court.

It must issue similar rulings in four other cases in order to establish a precedent that would be followed by courts across Mexico, and will considering those cases in the comings. But in the 8-2 decision Thursday, many justices used language indicating they are already headed in that direction.

"A soldier should never be judged by a military court when the victim is a civilian and their human rights have been violated," Justice Arturo Zaldivar said.

Complaints about mistreatment of civilians skyrocketed since Calderon sent tens of thousands of soldiers and marines to battle drug cartels across Mexico starting in late 2006. Victims' advocates say troops battling heavily armed criminal gangs in Mexican cities and rural areas often show little respect for civil rights, sweeping up innocent people along with legitimate suspects and extracting false confessions with physical abuse.

Government records obtained by Mexican press and rights groups show that military prosecutors opened nearly 5,000 investigations into alleged violations of rights between 2007 and April 2012 but only 38 service members were convicted and sentenced.

Mexico's Defense Department declined to comment on the ruling. The Mexican government's Interior Ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"This is a landmark decision of the Supreme Court," said Jose Miguel Vivanco, Americas director for Human Rights Watch. "Military jurisdiction plays a fundamental role in covering up human rights atrocities committed by security forces, particularly the army."

The military court system has not changed despite such international pressure and repeated government pledges to shift jurisdiction to civilian courts in many of the cases.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which has jurisdiction over members states such as Mexico, ruled in a 2009 case that military jurisdiction could not apply to any case in which civilians' human rights were violated.

Calderon responded with public promises to change the law, and in October 2010, he sent to the Senate a proposal to revise the jurisdiction of military courts, to allow civilian courts to investigate disappearances, torture and rape committed by military personnel against civilians, but not other crimes such as homicide.

The proposal stalled in Congress, a lack of progress many outside observers attributed to the government's unwillingness to anger the army by truly pushing for the change.

That same year, the U.S. government held back $26 million in aid from its Merida Initiative to fight drug trafficking because of human rights concerns, including the military justice issue.

In the Sanchez case, soldiers posted at the base told investigators they heard him screaming in pain during his detention, after he was arrested by police at a fair in the city of Cuernavaca south of Mexico City.

One of the soldiers' commanders, Col. Jose Guadalupe Arias Agredano, was charged with covering up the crime by telling soldiers not to talk about it and ordering several to dump his body on empty land in the neighboring state of Puebla. Sanchez was found two months later.

Local military and civilian courts disagreed over which of them should handle the case, with both trying not to get involved. Sanchez's family and lawyers from human rights groups took the case to the Supreme Court along with 29 other cases involving questions of civilian or military jurisdiction over soldiers accused of violating the rights of civilians.

Sanchez's relatives are hopeful that the Supreme Court decision will lead to significant change, said their lawyer, Octavio Amezcua of the nongovernmental Mexican Commission for the Defense and Promotion of Human Rights.

"What they want is for what happened to Jethro not to happen to other young people," Amezcua said. "If this can be a way for the same thing not to happen again, they see it as something positive.

"This decision provides guarantees that victims of human rights violations can obtain justice from an impartial and transparent court."

Other experts, however, say that Mexico's civilian justice system has done little to prevent similar abuses by the police officers who fall under its jurisdiction.

"The civil system of penal justice in Mexico doesn't work either," said Alejandro Anaya Mu?oz, an analyst at the Center for Economic Research and Instruction, an independent think tank. Romney, Obama bemoan attack ads _ but both benefit

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) ? Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama both deplored the pervasive presence of televised attack ads in the race for the White House on Thursday, though neither acknowledged being helped as well as harmed. Each blamed his foe.

Romney went first, saying of the president's campaign, "They just blast ahead" with ads that have been judged false by independent fact checkers.

"I don't know whatever happened to a campaign of 'hope and change,'" he said, a mocking reference to the spirit of optimism that Obama evoked during his successful run for the White House in 2008.

Obama ignored the slap. He told an audience in Colorado that "over the next three months, you will see more negative ads," and he suggested the blame lies with outside groups backing his rival.

"I mean, these super PACs, these guys are writing $10 million checks and giving them to Mr. Romney's supporters," he said.

Obama spoke as his own campaign unleashed yet another in the attack ad category, this one questioning whether there was ever a year in which Romney paid no federal taxes. 'We don't know," the announcer says, then quickly adds that Romney once "personally approved over $70 million in fictional losses to the IRS as part of ... one of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history."

Romney broached the subject two days after the release of a searing ad in which a former steelworker appears to suggest that he and Bain Capital, the private equity firm he owned, might bear some responsibility for the man's wife's death from cancer. The ad is the work of Priorities USA Action, a group that supports Obama, and it has been judged inaccurate by independent fact checkers and attacked vociferously by aides to the GOP presidential challenger.

The back and forth took place as Romney looked ahead to a bus tour through four states in as many days, ending next Tuesday in Ohio. The itinerary renewed speculation that the trip might culminate in the announcement that the state's Sen. Rob Portman would be the named vice presidential running mate on the Republican ticket.

Obama barnstormed through battleground Colorado more like a candidate for statewide office than for the White House, with stops in several parts of the state over two days.

After saying in Denver that Romney advocated policies on women's issues straight from the 1950s, he switched topics to alternative energy. Campaigning in Pueblo, the president noted that his rival wants to end a tax credit that benefits the producers of wind energy, an industry that Obama said supports about 5,000 jobs in Colorado and as many as 37,000 nationwide.

"It's time to stop spending billions in taxpayer subsidies on an oil industry that's already making a lot of profit, and let's keep investing in new energy sources that have never been more promising," he said.

Three of Colorado's four Republican House members support the credit, as do senior Republican office holders in Iowa, another presidential battleground state where Romney's opposition puts him at odds with the GOP establishment.

At issue is a tax credit that was originally signed into law 20 years ago by President George H.W. Bush, a Republican, and has generally enjoyed bipartisan support in the years since.

Legislation headed for the Senate floor would renew the tax break for existing facilities for one year, and also allow facilities that begin construction before the end of 2013 to qualify for a 10-year credit. The estimated cost is $12.1 billion over a decade, and the tax break has drawn criticism from some conservatives in Congress as a waste.

Romney sides with the critics, and in March he wrote, "In place of real energy, Obama has focused on an imaginary world where government-subsidized windmills and solar panels could power the economy. This vision has failed."

In the clash over television advertising, Romney appeared to lump together commercials aired by Obama's campaign with those aired by Priorities Action USA, the group that supports him. In his remarks to conservative radio show host Bill Bennett, Romney aides said, he was speaking about the Priorities Action USA commercial when he attacked the president's campaign.

By law, candidates' campaigns are not allowed to coordinate with independent groups that are aligned with them.

But most political experts agree that the finer points of campaign law are lost on most voters, who tell pollsters they dislike attack ads yet are known to shift their views of candidates because of them.

There is no dispute about their prevalence.

Obama, Romney and super PACs supporting both men have been running such ads for months at a cost of millions of dollars.

Restore Our Future, an independent group that backs Romney, aired ads during the race for the Republican nomination that first crippled Newt Gingrich and then sent Rick Santorum to the sidelines. The group spent more money on ads during the primary season than Romney's own campaign.

The same group as well as American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS have aired ads critical of Obama in more recent weeks, outspending candidate Romney, who can't fully dip into his campaign treasury until after the GOP convention in Tampa, Fla., this month.

Priorities Action USA went after Romney in the ad that sparked this week's controversy.

In such cases, accuracy is not always observed.

This week, Romney accused Obama in a commercial of planning to "gut welfare reform" by dropping work requirements. Gingrich, now a Romney supporter, said there is "no proof today" of the claim.

Last February, Gingrich, then a presidential contender, asked Georgia television stations to remove an attack ad by Restore Our Future. It accused him of once having co-sponsored legislation that sent $60 million a year to U.N. programs supporting China's "brutal one-child policy." PolitiFact, an independent website, rated the charge as false, but the ad was not taken down.

Obama's campaign last month aired an ad saying that Romney "backed a bill that outlaws all abortion, even in cases of rape and incest." FactCheck.org found that Romney's consistent position at least since 2005, is to oppose abortion except in cases of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is in danger.

In this week's controversy, Priorities USA Action says it has no plans to remove the commercial that prompted Romney's comments to Bennett.

Associated Press writers Kasie Hunt in New York and Steve Peoples and Philip Elliott in Washington contributed to this story. Julie Pace reported from Colorado.

21 Board Books For Babies and Toddlers

board books Many books have board book editions but aren?t always available at your library or bookstore. The 21 board books for babies and toddlers listed here are generally found in this format anywhere you find books. If you have a favorite board book you don?t see listed here please leave a comment for me and other readers about why it?s your favorite!

    ?

How Big Is a Pig? by Claire Beaton is a favorite in our house and has been for both my kids. I love the felt illustrations, the detail amazes me and helps distract me from noticing that I have read it 20 times in as many minutes. The story itself is great too, it focuses on opposites in the farm yard with a zippy rhyming text. My daughter loves taking this one in the stroller while I run and because it?s a board book I can give it to her without worrying that after a few miles it?s ripped and ruined.

Doggies by Sandra Boynton has been one of my daughter?s favorite books for ages. If you aren?t familiar with it, it?s a simple counting book about dogs, their different barks and one pesky cat. Toddlers love barking along with it so it?s a great book for places where they don?t have to be shushed, it?s not a great one for quiet only places like a church service.

Moo Baa La La Laby Sandra Boynton always makes me laugh. There is something about the facial expressions her animals always have that crack me up, and lets me honest if the book is good for the adult reading it, it?s always a plus. Super bright colors on each page is a huge plus for my baby girl as I flip the pages, and even though she doesn?t get the humor yet she will soon enough and it?s a book that will grow with her.

Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton.? This author is a preschool parents dream, short and easy to read melodic books with illustrations to die for. The story is simply a little love song about all the ways the dog loves the puppy, simple and touching. As an educator something I love is that the dogs don?t have an obvious race , they don?t even have an obvious gender which is perfect. Regardless of who loves who in your family your child can see you in the dog and themselves in the puppy! I think that is the perfect valentine! My son didn?t warm up to this book right away, but now not only does he love it he is very very specific that only I can read it to him . It?s become a big favorite in our house.

Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown isn?t an innovative choice but I make babies who love this book. My son could be ?Goodnight Mooned ? to sleep as a baby if we simply recited the words and while my daughter isn?t at that point yet she sits happily listening to our voices as we read it to her. I will be the first to admit I didn?t always love this book but as a mom it?s been more than a book, it?s been a signal to my son that it?s bedtime and I hope that it becomes part of my daughter?s routine soon too.? The story is simple , it?s not even really a story so much as a baby bunny saying goodnight to all the objects in his room including the moon peeking in the window.

The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle was one of my son?s favorite books to read before bed when he was a toddler, not so much because of the story but because the board book version has flashing lights at the end ! The story is all about a firefly looking for another firefly but mistaking all different light for a friend. Toddlers love this book because it gives them a chance to be bossy and say ? No that?s a flashlight? to the firefly. The text is the right length for little guys but not boring for older kids , and I need to mention the little lights are really quite magical in a dark bedroom, especially if you are in a place that doesn?t have fireflies!

Learn the Alphabet with NorthWest Coast Native Art by Ryan Cranmer (and others) was an amazing gas station find. Yes I said gas station. I ran in for some diet coke and came out with an alphabet book ! This book is amazing, bright beautiful and even though I bought it for my daughter since it?s bright colors and sturdy pages are perfect for a baby, my almost 4 year old son adores it. What I love is when he reads it to her . The Native art is gorgeous and if you are unfamiliar with North West coast art you are in for a treat.

Clap Your Handsby Lorinda Bryan Cauley is a rhythmic rhyming book that suggests movements for the readers ( perhaps when she is sitting or standing she will follow along) with fun and silly pictures of kids mixed with animals doing the actions. What probably appeals to my 3 month old are the bright colors on the white background and the rhythm of the text. Also it?s a fun book to have an older sibling join in with and do the actions as you read.

Beddy-bye, Baby: A Touch-and-Feel Bookby Karen Katz is a cute bedtime book for the toddler crowd.? I like the rhyming text and that it?s a feel and touch book? but with the exception of the final page the textured pieces are too small . Fumbly flappy infant hands have a a hard time hitting the small textured sections. Ideally they would be larger so the child can explore as the adult reads . It?s not a huge complaint and I love Karen Katz so I would still recommend this book for families with little ones.

Where Is Baby?s Pumpkin?by Karen Katz. This lift and flap book is the newest addition to our Karen Katz collection. My son adores these books. I read this in the check out line 3 times and he was asking for more before I could get my groceries in the fridge. I like this book because it?s a cute and gentle introduction to Halloween and all the creatures that go along with it. Also there are fun textures to many of the illustrations which help keep little hands busy! Edited for 2012 : Even though this is a Halloween book both my kids loved it and it?s never been put away since I bought it in 2009. It?s easily one of my daughter?s all time favorites.

This Little Chick by John Lawrence is just about the perfect board book for my daughter right now, she didn?t even try to eat it! The rhymes are melodic the text full of animal sounds is spot on for our littlest readers . My son and I had fun reading this old favorite to my daughter for the first time.? The illustrations are fantastic with lots of contrast and is the perfect length for? a quick snuggle and read for wiggly babies who are eager to move.

Cowboy Small by Lois Lenski is a cute cowboy book for the younger set. We have the board book edition and it?s been loved for a long time at our house, although since our return from the Calgary Stampede it?s been read constantly. The text is simple, the drawings are charming and the book covers all the basics of what a cowboys does day and night. My son loves that Cowboy small has a guitar, and is pretty fond of the part when he gets bucked off a bronco as well.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. is a book that can go with a baby from infancy through toddlerhood and into the preschool years. The bold colors of the illustrations by Eric Carle are perfect for catching infant?s attention and will continue to grab it through the years. With the turn of each page the reader is left wondering what?s next, and if the reader is my son he will cut you off to tell you what?s coming next before you have a chance to turn the page. There are other titles in the series , including ; Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?, Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See? , and Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What Do You See? but this one is my very favorite! My daughter actually sits looking at these pages instead of simply trying to eat the book, which in my opinion is a great review from a 6 month old!

Chicka Chicka ABC by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault? is a fantastic board book and shorter version of the longer book. My son loves this book and it?s the perfect amount of text for a toddler, the illustrations by Lois Ehlert are so bright and bold that even very young babies will respond to it! A must have for all bookshelves.

Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers and Marla Frazee .This? book celebrates all sorts of babies and all the every day things babies do. ?My daughter points out all the babies on each page as I read the rhyming text . So maybe you are thinking ? What?s so great about babies and text that rhymes?? nothing, that isn?t what makes this book so awesome. I love this book because of it?s diversity, inclusion, and acceptance of all babies and families. ?The illustrations are full of depictions of all sorts of families showering their smallest most precious member with love . What I adore about the diversity of the illustrations is that readers are left to put whatever assumption we wish on the families in the book. What I assumed were two mommies my husband thought was a husband and wife, I thought a lady was a grandma and my son said it was just a older mom. This is why I love this book, my daughter doesn?t see why this message is outstanding, what she does see is all sorts of happy babies in all sorts of ?families being the norm and this is the world we want her to know.

Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann is simply one of my favorite books ever. I love it and love that my daughter doesn?t fuss when I read it to her because it was a special book for my son when he was little and it?s a book he will still curl up and read quietly with us, making it fun cuddle time for all three of us. If you aren?t familiar with this book it?s all about a sneaky gorilla who unlocks all the animals at the zoo and they quietly follow the zoo keeper home and climb into bed with him, until his wife wakes up! I love this book cause I relate to the zoo keepers wife , when I wake up there is always a sneaky 3 year old gorilla in my bed!

One Duck Stuck by Phyllis Root looks like an everyday book , but inside you will find a brilliantly repetitive storyline, that promotes teamwork, and mathematical skills! See a duck gets stuck in the muck and while others are eager to help the duck isn?t unstuck until they all work together. My class was nuts about this book a few years ago and my son has greatly enjoyed it since infancy. Don?t pass this book up.

Dinosaur Roar! Board Book by Paul and? Henrietta Stickland and is a board book that I?ve read often enough that I don?t need to look at the book. The premise is simple, using 2 different dinosaurs every page illustrates a pair of opposites. Toddlers and young preschoolers adore this book and I can?t blame them, it?s adorable and a great tool for teaching ! My son loves how funny the illustrations are and clearly enjoys the rigidity of the opposite concepts.

?The Busy Little Squirrelby Nancy Tafuri is a great book for babies and toddlers. The readers follow along with a squirrel as she gathers nuts , seeds and berries for the winter. As she hunts for her treasure she encounters many animals who all make their respective sounds and ask her to play, of course she is too busy and continues on.? Even though the idea is not groundbreaking? I like that this book can be used to introduce animal sounds without simply sitting down with let?s say flash cards and teaching them to your toddler. Even if you have no real animals near by books like this one are a great way to authentically teach very young kids.

Bye-Bye Time by Elizabeth Verdick is a great book for toddlers who are anxious about separation.? It goes through drop off time at school between a little girl and her dad. When I worked in a childcare setting bye bye time was a huge source of anxiety for many students, books like this one are such great tools for parents and teachers. There are wonderful tips at the back that in my experience are all great advice. This book is just one of many by the same author that are all wonderful tools for families and classrooms. My favorite being Teeth Are Not for Biting and Words are Not for Hurting

Owl Babies by Martin Waddell was an instant hit with my son. I knew it would be, much like little Bill the smallest of the three baby owls my son is fond of saying ?I want my mommy?. The three birds are distraught when they discover mama owl is not there. I love how they huddle together, and think a lot before mama Owl returns non- challant about the fact that she?d returned. The illustrations of the owls are so expressive , which with very few facial features is impressive. Patrick Benson did a wonderful job bringing all three owl?s personalities out visually as well as making the setting ominous without being frightening to young readers. Great book!
